Indian Cottage Pie
5 potatoes, peeled & cut in chunks
freshly ground salt & pepper
½-1 tspn turmeric
1 heaped tbsp freshly chopped coriander
¼ cup milk
vegetable oil
2 medium-large onions, chopped
2 chillies, chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tspn freshly grated ginger
2 tspn ground cumin
2 tspn garam masala
1 tspn sambel oelek
700 gm minced beef
1 can diced tomatoes
1 cup beef stock

½-1 tspn turmeric

1 tspn freshly grated ginger
2 tspn ground cumin
2 tspn garam masala

700 gm minced beef
1 can diced tomatoes
1 cup beef stock
Preheat oven to 200°C. Cook potatoes in plenty of lightly salted water until tender. Drain well and mash with turmeric, coriander, milk and seasonings. Set aside. Heat a little oil in a pot and gently saute onions, chillies, garlic and ginger until slightly coloured. Add cumin, garam masala and sambel. Mix well and add beef, together with more oil if needed. Cook, mashing and stirring with a wooden spoon until colour changes. Then add tomatoes, stock and seasonings. Stir well and cook until thick and fragrant. Transfer beef mix into an oven dish and top with potato, spreading out into an even layer. Cook in oven for about 10 mins until crispy.
